We are VERY happy to say that the Chestnut Wood-Quail was seen right next to Cabin #2 at La Esperanza. This is exciting, because the only record to date is one distant sound ID that José Fernando Castaño made few months ago. I am aware that this species is a key focus at some other sites in the region; this may give tours another option. Stay tuned to see what continued playback and searching will have revealed . . .
We are also starting a compost pile seeded with earthworms visible from both birder cabins, taking advice from Dieogo Calderón, Robert Giles and others to attract the wood-quail and other omnivore/insectivore species.
