Endemics and special birds at La Esperanza include:
1. Yellow-eared Parrot
2. Colombian Chachalaca
3. Mustached Wren
4. Parker’s Antbird
5. Yellow-headed Manakin
6. Greyish Piculet
7. Chestnut Wood-Quail
8. Multi-colored Tanager
During a full year on-site, we have seen the Yellow-eared Parrot almost daily: maybe a week here or there without even a passerby, but most days a visit at some point. Excellent viewing of the feeding birds is typical, with great opportunities for still and video images. The chachalaca, wren and antbird are also very likely. The manakin was netted on-site and the piculet, wood-quail and tanager have single records. Most recently, we got our second record of the Chestnut Quail-Dove, right on the grass in front of Cabin #2! I am working the sounds and expect to identify for sure what I suspect has been coming from that bird. At first I thought I was hearing some flycatcher. Then, after research, I realized that this Picumnus has several VERY distinct sounds and we at Xeno Canto are not clear on which is call or song.
